Anvil Angus, March 15: Bulls to $21,000

A US sire proved a hit at Anvil Angus' autumn bull sale in Alexandra.

Principal Stephen Handbury sold all 54 bulls offered topped at $21,000 and averaged $5264.

However, four full brothers, sired by US sire WK Replay and out of a Y147 cow stole the show.

The four sons of WK Replay averaged $13,000, with the sale-topping bull, bought by Texas Angus at Warialda, in NSW, topped the sale.

"We bought this bull back from the US, and this is the first time his progeny have been offered in Victoria,' Mr Handbury said.

"We were absolutely blown away with the result.'

Mr Handbury said they offered 5-7 per cent more bulls this year than last year, and were pleased with the commercial support they received.

The second-highest price paid was for a WK Replay son. He was bought by Banquet Angus at  Mortake.

Mr Handbury said the sire - which was bought in partnership with Genetics of Russia - has since been flown to Russia.

"We should have enough semen from him,' he said.

The first lot sold at Anvil Angus was a charity bull, with all proceeds going to the Mansfield Autism Statewide Services.

The bull was bought by Ruralco for $5000, and they donated the bull back to be sold, where it was re-sold for $5000 - taking the total donation to MASS to $10,000.
